Question
As-Salām ʿalaykum wa raḥmatullāh wa barakātuh.
There is a situation in Nigeria whereby abductors are present. Currently, some individuals have been abducted, and the abductors demand the payment of an amount in return for their release. Is it permissible to pay a ransom to these abductors in this case? May Allāh reward you.

Shaykh Muwaffaq Ḥusayn Al-Jabūrī
“If you are unable to set the abductee free except by that, there is no problem.”
Shaykh Muḥammad ʿUmar Al-Fulānī Al-Chadī
“These abductors are undoubtedly oppressive criminals. War must be waged against them because they are deserving of war.
However, despite that, in a state of weakness [whereby] the relatives of the abductees are unable to set their relatives or brothers etc. free except by paying money for it, there is no problem with that. And they are [considered] weak and oppressed too.
