Question:
Brother M.A.M from Al-Baahah says in his question that:
The Messenger ﷺ said in what was reported by Imām Muslim in his Sahīh that: “Do not turn your homes to graveyards, verily, Shaytān flees from the home that Sūratul Baqarah is being recited”.
And my question, O eminent father, is that: Is it sufficient for a man to come with a tape recorder and he puts a tape that has the recording of Sūratul Baqarah in it and it plays it till it recites the Surah completely? Or the person should read it himself or another person should read it on his behalf? Also, is compulsory that it is recited completely in a single sitting or there is no problem if he recites it at intervals? I hope that you honour me by benefitting me (with answers).
Answer:
What is most obvious — and Allah knows best — is that by reciting all the Surah (Baqarah) completely on radio or from the owner of the home, what the prophet ﷺ mentioned that it makes Shaytān flee from that house will be achieved. But that does not mean he would not return from his fleeing after the completion of the recitation. Just as he flees from listening to the Adhān and the Iqāmah, then he returns and comes in between a person and his heart, and he says: remember this, remember that… as it has been authentically narrated from the Prophet ﷺ.
So what is legislated for a believer is that he seeks Allāh’s refuge from Shaytān always, and he should be cautious of his plots, whisperings and what he calls to of sin. And Allah is possesor of success.
