I seek refuge in Allāh from Shayṭān, the outcast. In the name of Allāh, the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
﴾By the dawn; By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). And by the night when it departs. There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)!﴿ [Al-Fajr:1-5]
Shaykh Sāliḥ bn Fawzān Al-Fawzān
﴾By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah).﴿ [Al-Fajr:2]
And these nights, the most renowned of statements regarding them is that they are the [first] ten [days] of Dhul Ḥijjah — which Allāh’s Messenger ﷺ said regarding it in the authentic Ḥadīth:
- The Virtue Of Its Days:
Shaykh Muḥammad bn Sāliḥ Al-ʿUthaymīn
“There are no such days that [doing] good deeds in them is more beloved to Allāh than these ten days” They [i.e., the companions] said: “Not even fighting in the cause of Allāh?” He said: “Not even fighting in the cause of Allāh. Except [in the case] of a man that went out [in Jihād] with his life and his wealth, and did not return with any of that.”
Shaykh Rabīʿ Bn Hādī Al-Madkhalī
And these virtuous days, what is obligatory in them is seeking closeness to Allāh with all types of nearness!
- Recommended Deeds During Its Days:
Shaykh Muhammad Bn Ṣāliḥ Al-ʿUthaymīn
It is, indeed, imperative to utilize the [first] ten [days] of Dhul Ḥijjah for righteous deeds such as remembrance [of Allāh], recitation of the Qur’ān, supplication, charity, and Ṣalāh.
Shaykh Ṣāliḥ Bn Muḥammad Al-Luḥaydān
And goodness to the servants of Allāh, and refraining from harming [them]. As each of us knows that his refraining from harming others is a charity from him to himself.
Shaykh ʿUbayd Bn ʿAbdillāh Al-Jābirī
Fasting is also included in it, and being plentiful in supererogatory Ṣalāh, and connecting [the ties of kinship], and doing good, and everything that evidence has indicated its being a righteous deed which Allāh—the Exalted and Most High—loves.
Shaykh ʿAbdulAzīz Bn ʿAbdillāh Bn Bāz
And when fasting the ten days [of Dhul Ḥijjah] is mentioned, the meaning is the first nine days with its last being the day of ʿArafah. Fasting them is recommended and a good deed.
- Fasting The Day Of ʿArafah
Shaykh Muḥammad Amān bn ʿAlī Al-Jāmī:
“And on the authority of Abū Qatādah, he said the Prophet ﷺ said: ‘Fasting the day of ʿArafah expiates [sins of] two years, the previous and the next.’ ”
That is, for the person that is not present at ʿArafah.
- The Sunnah Of Making Takbīr
Shaykh Muḥammad bn Ṣāliḥ Al-ʿUthaymīn:
“It is legislated for the people during the ten days of Dhul Ḥijjah to be plentiful in [saying] takbīr.”
Shaykh ʿAbdul-ʿAzīz bn ʿAbdillāh bn Bāz
The [format of the] takbīr is: “Allāh akbar, Allāh akbar, lā Ilāha illā Allāh, Allāh akbar, Allāh akbar, wa lillāhil ḥamd”. Or he makes it three; “Allāh akbar, Allāh akbar, Allāh akbar, lā Ilāha illā, Allāh akbar, Allāh akbar, Allāh akbar, wa lillāhil ḥamd“. Also; “Allāh akbar kabīrā, walḥamdulillāh kathīrā, wa subḥānallāh bukratan wa aṣīlā“.
Shaykh Muḥammad bn Ṣāliḥ Al-ʿUthaymīn
And the affair in this [i.e., the format of takbīr] is broad. Whether you make takbīr twice or thrice, all of them are good.
Shaykh Ṣāliḥ bn Fawzān Al-Fawzān
[Saying] the takbīr starts in the first ten days of Dhul Ḥijjah when the crescent is established. He should make takbīr in these days and he should be plentiful in making takbīr.
And they wound raise their voices in the streets, in the houses, and shops, with the takbīr.
Shaykh ʿAbdul-ʿAzīz bn ʿAbdillāh bn Bāz
As for congregational takbīr, it is not legislated. It is an innovation. Their saying it with a single voice is an innovation. It is not legislated.
- The Best Days Of The World
Shaykh Sāliḥ bn Fawzān Al-Fawzān
The scholars say that the [first] ten days of Dhul Ḥijjah are more virtuous than the last ten days of Ramaḍān.
And as for nights, then the last ten nights of Ramaḍān are better than the first ten nights of Dhul Ḥijjah.”
Shaykh Muḥammad bn Sāliḥ Al-ʿUthaymīn
And it is surprising that the people are heedless of these ten [days].
You will find them that in last ten of Ramaḍān, they strive in them, isn’t it? They strive!
But in the first ten days of Dhul Ḥijjah, you will rarely see anyone differentiate between them and other days.
Shaykh Sāliḥ bn Fawzān Al-Fawzān
So utilize it. May Allāh grant me and you success. Everyone according to what Allāh has made easy for him from good [deeds] in them.
