Question
Esteemed Shaykh, we have a reservoir of water that a child urinated in, and likewise, we found a rat in it. So what is your opinion?
When an impurity falls into water, like urine or faeces or a rat or other impurities, and it does not change due to the impurity, not its taste, nor its colour, nor its smell, then it is pure. However, it is compulsory to remove sizable impurities. Like if it were faeces, it must be gathered and removed from the water. Or (if it were) a rat, it is also removed.
Questioner
The reservoir is big and it is not possible to remove it.
Shaykh Muḥammad bn Ṣāliḥ al-ʿUthaymīn
It is a must. Someone who knows how to swim should enter it and remove it — because if it remains there, the water will later be affected. After this, the water is drawn out until only little remains, and it (i.e the impurity) is removed.
