May Allāh be good to you O esteemed Shaykh. This questioner is asking about the ruling on the supplication on the completion of (reciting) the Qur’ān.
Shaykh Arafaat bn Hasan al-Muhammadī
It was reported from Anas (may Allāh be pleased with him) with an authentic chain from Ibn Abee Shaybah and other than him, that verily, that whenever he completes the Qur’ān, He will assemble his family.
Some of the people of Knowledge have made this Narration a form of foundation in this topic.
And they say; therefore, prayer after completion of the Qur’ān has a basis because Anas prayed after the completion (of the Qur’ān).
So from here, they permitted the supplication of Khatm al- Qur’ān in the Ṣalaah .
And they say if he will supplicate in his home and with his family after he recites the Qur’ān and completes it , then is reported and established and there is no problem in that.
But the controversy is in that which relates with if an individual completes the Qur’ān during Ṣalaah at-Tarāweeh (the night prayer during the month of Ramadān) and then intends to call for supplication, this is the point of differing.
A group amongst (pious predecessors) disliked this and do not consider it to be encouraged.
And a group from the scholars especially contemporary scholars and from those who came after the Salafs like Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah and like Shaykh Ibn Bāz from the contemporary scholars opined the permissibility of this matter. And this is relying on the narrations of Anas (may Allāh be pleased with him).
The reality is that, the affair is extensive. Especially if you are following a person different from you and he supplicates. Then supplicate and say Āmeen to his Du’ā (Supplication).
And some people see it as an Innovation and they are harsh on it, whereas in reality, it should be said that the matter is extensive.
If the individual supplicates, then follow him In that but the best is for the affair to be abandoned.
Especially if in that Du’ā (supplication) is undue elongation, or a form of musical composition or overburdening oneself.
And that is the Mistake that is actually witnessed especially at this later and contemporary time.
