Muhammad bn Sireen said: “Indeed, this knowledge is religion, so carefully consider from whom you take your religion” ¹
Islam can not be practised except with knowledge and the religious knowledge we acquire will shape our beliefs and actions. A good Muslim must be conscious of the sources from which he takes his religious knowledge because he is surely going to practise his religion based on what he knows, if he learns the correct knowledge, he will be able to practise the religion correctly. But if he learns the wrong knowledge, he would practise the religion wrongly and he expects that Allah rewards him with that, not knowing that all he practised were being rejected by Allah because they were wrong. To achieve learning the correct knowledge, a good Muslim must learn from people who are upon what Allah and His Prophet say, and He must turn away from the people of innovation and desires that corrupt the deen.
Any caller can claim to be upon Qur’an and Sunnah, it is upon the one who wants to take from him to look at his methodology and his conduct. Like Shaykh Sālih Fawzān حفظه الله تعالى said that:
“Nowadays so many people claim to be callers to Islam, but if you look at their Methodology and conducts, you find them in complete opposition to Islam.”²
You have to carefully look at the one you wish to listen, read and learn from, if he doesn’t align himself or agree with the known deviant sects such Sūfiyyah [Tijāniyyah, Qādiriyyah, Naqshabandiyyah, Jishtiyyah, Balrewiyyah, Deobandiyyah and the likes.], Shia, Ikhwanul Muslimeen [TMC, OTM, Ta’aawun, Standard Bearers and the likes.], Jama’tu Tablīgh, Khawārij [ISIS, Boko-haram, Taliban, Al-Qaeda and the likes].
You must be sure that he doesn’t align himself or agree or sit with deviant innovators such as Sayyid Qutb, Abul Aala Al Mawdūdi, Yasir Qadhi, Ali Hasan Al Halabi, Yahya Hajūri, Muhammad Hassaan, Adnan Ar’oor, Osama bin Laden and the likes.
You must be sure that he follows the Quran and Sunnah upon the Methodology of the pious predecessors.
Among the popular innovators that have deceived a lot of innocent Muslims is Mr Menk (popularly referred to as Mufti Menk). Because of the eloquence of this man and the way he dresses, people get deceived and they think he’s from the people of sunnah, but he is not. Mr Menk is Deobandi.
Here is a link to a phone conversation with the Father of Mufti Menk where he was explaining that his son is a Deobandi.

As it has been mentioned before, we should not take our religious knowledge from the people of Innovation such as the Deobandi, because a person that takes his religious knowledge by listening to innovators such as Mr Menk will surely practise his religion based on the wrong knowledge.
Sufyaan ath-Thawree said, “Whoever listens to an innovator has left the protection of Allaah, and is entrusted with the innovation.” ³
Muslims should be careful of people who want to be accepted by everyone and that make them shiver from saying the clear truth that Islam stands for. Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and his companions preached against the false gods of Makkah even though Makkah was filled with followers of those gods. Anyone that preaches Tawheed (Islamic Monotheism) will be hated by the people of Shirk (Polytheism), anyone that preaches sunnah will be hated by the people of bid’ah, and anyone that preaches righteousness will be hated by people who want to promote sinful acts. That’s why you see people like Mr Menk who wants to be accepted by everyone shying away from talking against disbelief and disbelievers, innovation and innovators, and evils and evildoers.
Mr Menk, apart from being a Deobandi, has committed several crimes against Islam due to wanting to sound liberal and wanting to be accepted by everyone: he said that people can be homosexual if they want to be while Allah has made that forbidden. He also said people can shake the opposite sex if they wish, and even said that he can shake an opposite sex, even though the prophet ﷺ has made that forbidden, and several wrong things also, you can watch below
It is not permissible for a Muslim to claim that he will continue to take from innovators and he will take the good from them and leave the bad, the ideology of “taking the good and leaving the bad” is from the whispering of Shaytan and Mr. Menk is among the people who have assisted Shaytān in spreading the ideology around to people.
It is not all evil that are clearcut and obvious, especially when it is coming from people who are eloquent and the listeners are not versed in the knowledge of Sunnah.
Ibn Qudaamah (d.602H) said, “The Salaf used to forbid sitting with the people of innovations, looking into their books and listening to their words.”
Sa’eed ibn ‘Aamir said: I heard Ismaa’eel [i.e. Ibn Khaarijah] narrate, saying: two men from the people of the innovated sects came to Muhammad Ibn Seereen and said: “O Aboo Bakr, we want to narrate something to you.”
He said: “No.” They said: “Then may we recite an Aayah from Allaah’s book to you?” He said: “No.” He said: “Either you two get up and leave or I will get up.” So the two men stood up and left. So one of the people said: “What harm would it do to you for him to recite an Aayah?” He said: “I hated that he should recite an Aayah and that they would distort it and then it would enter my heart.” ⁴
Imaam as-Saaboonee (d. 449H) said about Ahlus-Sunnah, “They follow the Salafus-Saalih – the Imaams and the Scholars of the Muslims, and they cling to the firm deen that they clung to and to the clear truth. And they hate Ahul-Bid’ah (the People of Innovation) who innovate into the Deen that which is not from it. They do not love them and they do not keep company with them. They do not listen to their sayings, nor sit with them, nor argue with them about the Deen, nor debate with them. Rather, they protect their ears from hearing their futility; things, which if they pass through the ears and settle in the hearts, will cause harm and cause doubts and wicked ideas to appear. And concerning this Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, sent down: And when you see people engaged in vain discourse about Our Signs, then turn away from them unless they turn to a different theme.”⁵’ ⁶
Ma’mar said: Ibn – Taawoos was sitting when one of the Mu’tazilah came and began speaking, so ibn Taawoos entered his fingers into his ears and said to his son:
“O My son put your fingers into your ears and press tightly so you do not hear any of his speech.” Ma’mar said: Meaning that the heart is weak. ⁷
The above narrations from the Salaf show how much they would fear listening to an innovator. Even though many of them were versed in the knowledge of sunnah, they still fear that a doubt from an eloquent innovator might get to their mind. Why won’t fear and save your deen?

I love this
Alhamdulillah and jazakallahu khairr for sharing this important update. I personally have taken Mufty Menk in the highest esteem, but this been said, it’s never gonna be the same anymore. May the Almighty grant us guidance and protection from any misleading scholar and always expose them to us as to who they really are.
