Shaykh ‘Arafaat bn Hasan Al-Muhammadi:
And the Author mentioned that it’s not authentic that the Angel of Death’s name is ‘Izrā’īl. And this, as mentioned by the Author, -na’am- if it has been reported in some narrations, then these narrations are all weak and unauthentic.
So from the actions of the angels… This Noble Angel was named by Allāh ‘Azza wa Jall in the Qur’ān as Malak al-Mawt as Allāh said:
Say: “The angel of death (Malak al-Mawt), who is set over you, will take your souls…” (as-Sajdah: 11)
Therefore, the appellation of ‘Izrā’īl is not correct.
And the evidences are many in the Qur’ān with regards to the Angels that are connected with collection of the Soul. As Allāh ‘Azza wa Jall said:
“And He sends guardians (angels guarding and writing all of one’s good and bad deeds) over you, until when death approaches one of you, Our Messengers (angel of death and his assistants) take his soul, and they never neglect their duty.” (al-An’ām:61)
The one who collects the soul and and takes charge of it is the Malak al-Mawt and there are other angels that help and aid him as Allāh said:
“And He sends guardians (angels guarding and writing all of one’s good and bad deeds) over you…” (al-An’ām:61)
And as He said:
“Those whose lives the angels take…” (an-Naḥl:32)
So, the one who collects the Soul and takes charge of it is a single Angel, and it’s the Malak al-Mawt. And these ones (i.e the other Angels) aid him as was reported in the long Hadeeth of al-Barā’ bn ‘Āzib when the soul is taken and they (the Angels) rise up with it to the Heaven.
